"Mandarin Fever" Around the World
2019/04/26

In recent years, people all over the world are becoming more and more enthusiastic about learning Chinese, and the enthusiasm of Chinese has quietly spread around the world.

Language is the carrier of culture and the bridge of communication. Learning Chinese is an important way for foreigners to get to know China's extensive culture. China has also boosted its cultural "soft power" with its "mandarin fever" around the world.

In July, Portland, UK, and the university of southern California jointly released the 2017 global soft power research report. The report focuses on 30 of the world's most influential countries in the field of soft power, from business, culture, digital, government and education. China improved its ranking in the four individual indicators of government, global participation, culture and educationThe biggest increase was education, and the report argues that strengths of China are mainly in the cultural sector. On the other hand, the "mandarin fever" sweeping the world also shows that the outside world is generally optimistic about China's future development. It is believed that mastering Chinese will effectively enhance personal value and create more opportunities for personal development.

Learning Chinese is now seen as a good investment by "smart business people", the financial times reported recently. A growing number of British people are realizing that learning Chinese is not just a hobby but an important skill to promote their competitiveness.

Less than four years after the Chinese government set the goal of "establishing 100 Confucius institutes abroad in five years" in 2004, more than 200 Confucius institutes have been listed in dozens of countries.  The number of people learning aesthetic Chinese in Europe is increasing by 40% every year. Some parents in European and American countries consider that Chinese is a must-learn skill. A growing number of people believe that mastering English is the key to getting ahead in the 20th century, while mastering Chinese will dominate in the 21st century.
